This formula works a lot for me. I buy a book then I peddle the service. I did it so many times. One of the most successful services was peddling Google Campaigns.
Proposing the service. Bulletin boards are good, and I scored a lot of clients from Janglo, here in Jerusalem. Your community must have something similar. Even so, you also must have business cards, and you must give them away on a daily basis, physically with a sales pitch. Takes a while until the phone rings. A couple of weeks to 4 months, if you give them daily. There is a book I used a lot, frequently the 10 most sold of its kind, called Guerrilla Marketing. There is a link at the end of this post. The beauty of it is the downside, it is an almost no loss situation. If you don’t sell a single campaign, that is fine, nothing but a few business cards were spent, and move on to the next project.
ROI: The Sales Pitch. The main goal on Google Adwords is to establish a successful return over investment. This means a daily budget is transformed into such and such clicks, that transforms into such and such sales, depending on the impression location, language and keywords. A whole science. The positive ROI is obtained through intensive testing. We found for LDEvents that clicks coming from Las Vegas were more likely to close a Jerusalem wedding since many couples go to Nevada to marry, then decide to make it fancier. This discovery took like 2 months.
Graphic Work Required. Google Adwords works with Text ads, and banners. I always require that if the client is going to approve the campaign, the graphic work has to be done with us, therefore locking the client. They will always have a cousin or somebody who will do the graphics and will ask for a discount. No No. This also gives a lot of bargaining power over the price. Banners have batches of 6 sizes, and in general I present 2 or 3 suggestions to be approved, then re size.
Pricing. It will depend on how many keywords the client wants to start testing, and if he wants a landing page redesign. You will need to install Google Analytics, on the site, to track traffic sources. This all has a price. I estimate the amount of hours and multiply by $35 or $50 for clients here. For maintenance I charge either $100 a month or 10% of the budget to renew the campaign, whatever is higher. I test in general keywords for 2 months, preliminary.
Not for Everyone. It may not work for you. Nevertheless the investment is so small, I bough the books for close to $2 each and you can make so much that is worth giving a try. Here are the links for the books I use.
