Credentials. If you are not able to convince a perspective buyer you can deliver something, please, do yourself a favor, don’t even start. Fortunately, everything on the web is wide accessible, so if you have a collection of websites you did, that is already a start. If you have a collection of over 100 tutorials on line, that is also good, but above all, references if you can. This will be the main tool for a first trust base. ODesk also provides on line test for provider screening and they are free, once approved they give html code to paste the link to grades anywhere here are some badges I have:
Data Mining. This is not a “job”, working as a freelance demands the capability of adjusting the sails. You will find some contact information at whois.net or some others at the website footer. Use your instinct. If your instinct is not there, check either your need or your capability.
Cold Calling. Since your are calling someone literally out of no where, phone performance is a must. Shy callers, may try contacting through email or instant messenger, but phone is the best phone contact. Skype has a feature that ALLOWS SENDING PAYMENTS but does not work on every country so please check.
Escrow. Most cases, if you close you still will need ODesk, for escrow services. ODesk will hold payments until project is delivered, therefore making far easier to close with a complete stranger. Once potential buyer enquires about payment, request ODesk escrow, and then you and him are covered.
