Robert Kiyosaki extensively points out that there are 4 types of income, There is the employed, self employed, the business and the investor and they are very different by nature. The thing is out of massive communication, since most advertisement is targeted at the employed employee, we many times only think on money terms. Meaning that, many times, if we don’t see a figure at the bottom line, we don’t even bother to go into.
This is a lesson very hard to learn, specially if there is no outside help. It is a classic advice extensively given by Jay Levinson on his book Guerrilla Marketing.
2 Recent profitable Barter cases I had.
Sold Adspace. I am a moderator for a large group here in Jerusalem. The group has over 23k members, a large community by any standards. The group owner does not pay me cash for moderating. Yet he does let me have a banner on his home page, with close to 100.000 monthly impressions. Most of the moderation was done as volunteer work, I did not see the value on the banner. Eventually I sold the ad space and kept the payment, for myself, with the owners approval. This means that my fee was stored in merchandise, until release.
Power Backlink. I occasionally submit articles to a popular magazine. They will not pay me cash, but their site has a Google Page rank 7 and the alexa ranking is 6.000, and they will allow me to put a link on the article, and a link like that can fetch between $45 to $90 and then translates into traffic, and traffic into impressions and impressions into revenue.
Bottom Line. If we sit and wait for dream clients the whole day, we may eventually go broke. There is a lot of unseen barter opportunities out there, all we need is help to see.
